Youth Hunting

Youth deer hunting season is Sept. 26 and 27. Youth age 17 or younger on the date of the hunt, and accompanied by an adult of at least 18 years of age, can take one anterless deer during this special youth deer season. The youth hunter must posses a valid hunting license (youth or deer),but the accompaning adult does not need to posess a hunting license while in the field with the youth hunter. The youth hunter must comply with all deer hunting regulation, including tagging the deer and checking it in.

Tagging and Checking deer

Immediately upon killing a deer, the hunter must complete a tag on paper that states the hunters name, address, sex of the deer and the day and the month of the kill. A hunter is not required to place the tag on the deer while dragging it out of the field as long as the hunter has filled out and carring the information. A hunter must maintain immediate custody of and visual cotact with the carcass. The tag must be attached to the deer before the hunter leaves the deer or loads the deer in a vehicle. The person who checks the deer must take it to a check station within 48 hours of the kill for registration. Before they leave the check station, a permanent seal must be attached to the carcass. The permanent seal has to stay attached until the carcass has been processed or packaged. If a hunter does not do this they will be fined and may not be able to get a hunting license.

No Luck

This was the first year that I didn’t get a deer, saw quite a few, but the bucks were too little and too young, the does were never close enough to shoot at or they came out too late and it was too dark to be shooting, They are very intelligent, thats for sure. I’ve never muzzle loaded, but I might get a chance to go before it goes out. Keeping my fingers crossed.

hunting

Last Saturday I had company deerhunting, I had my first experince of taking a child hunting with me, I don’t feel that I am that experinced at hunting, so I was a little nervous. Shelby O., a first grader was talking to my husband, Sid at a get together that we were attending and she was very interested in his outtings deerhunting she had alot of questions, he was kind of joking with her and asked if she wanted to go (he didn’t think she would) well she did want to go. She spent the night with us, since we were getting up very early, this little girl has never been to our house, we know her parents well, we were all suprised that she spent the night. She woke up before the alarm went off and was ready to go she was so excited. Shelby wanted to go sit with me instead of Sid, which was fine, but it did make me nervous I didn’t feel comfotable having my gun around her. We had a blast, didn’t get to see any deer, but I really think she learned alot about hunting and the safety of hunting and about deer too. I hated that we didn’t see any, but I enjoyed it so much and it made me feel good to see how excited she was. She told me it was her first time to go deerhunting and she wants to go again. I think she would have hung out with me all day waiting for a deer to show up. I’m really glad she went and I can’t wait to take her again!!!

Opening morning

Saturday, November 14 was opening morning for gun season. I love it!!!! I always go to my stand opening morning, I’ve always seen deer there and they have been eating from the clover patch well. It was a beautiful morning to be out a little warm in the afternoon. I got situated in my stand, judged my distance of shooting and open shooting lanes, and sat back and waited. The first shot was right at daylight, thats good that means they are starting to move, YEA!! Heard some more shots off in the distance. I had a button buck run in front of me, off limits he needs to grow-up to be big boy. A doe ran along the woods to the right of me and a little later a doe ran across the woods in front of me. The two does were’t close enough for me to shoot at and besides that they were running and I won’t shoot at them running I perfer a slow moving target or standing still. A little 6-pointer walked along the tree line of the woods and i watched it all the way to my stand, we just starred at each other he was big bodied , but needed to grow up to a big boy too. He should be a pretty nice buck next year. No deer for me opening morning this year, but I saw some action and that makes it exciting. I’ve been out a few times and haven’t seen anything, not even a squirrel. We left our hunting area and headed back to our shop for lunch and “deer stories” I usually try to fix something to eat for everyone that hunts out our way, so they don’t have to go back home inbetween hunting. My husband, Sid set up our ground blind and we hunted out of it that evening, we got busted the does started walking out real close to where the blind was and spotted us, Sid was looking through the binoculurs and they made eye contact , I’m sure there was probably a glare from the binoculurs the sun was setting behind them. It was cool though I haven’t ever heard a doe blow before and she did about six times, warning the others of danger. Another learning experience.

Hunting Season

Hunting season for deer in Indiana is as follows: Youth- Sept. 26 and 27, 2009, Early Archery–Oct. 1-Nov. 29, 2009, Firearms: Nov. 14- Nov. 29, 2009, Muzzleloader: Dec. 5-Dec. 20, 2009, Late Archery; Dec. 5, 2009 –Jan. 31, 2010. Bonus anterless deer bag limit in Knox County is 4.

Getting ready to go look for deer tonite, saw alot this weekend saw some scrapes and rubs yesterday. Trying to get some pictures loaded on my site, hopefully they will be on in a short. Any trophy bucks this weekend, let me know, send pictures!!! Saw 8 does just at dark coming out to feed in the corn field. One good thing about the ones we saw they are coming out of the same paths and areas that we have spotted them before. the ground is really wet were we have our food plots, so we haven’t been able to scout those areas in the last week.

Hope this works

I have been trying to blog and get some information out , but everytime I try to put something on my site I loose it, I don’t have a clue what I am doing wrong. I have lots of information I would like to share with others hopefully after tonite I will be able to start blogging and logging on to oter classmates blogs. I thought I had everything going a couple of weeks ago, but it is still not here to read. My blog is on deer hunting, Iv’e been hunting for almost four years and I really enjoy it I have shot a doe or a buck each year I’ve gone. I haven’t tried bow hunting, I think I would like it but it looks alot harder than shooting. I practice shooting at targets each year and I have shot better I shoot a Charles Dailey 20 guage youth rifle, it’s not as heavey to carry and it is a little shorter than a regular size gun. I have shot my husbands 12 guage alot, but to carry it around and try to get it up in my stand is a little tricky. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed hunting, I was afraid that when I saw a buck or a doe I wouldn’t shoot ( the Bambi thing) never crossed my mind when I saw my first one, it was awesome, the adrenaline rush! Well I hope this is working so I can start getting some info out and I have lots of pictures.
